About

Daiei Onoguchi (小野口大衛) is a Tokyo-based film director, telling visually bold stories that bridge Japanese and international perspectives.

His award-winning documentary Pot of Gold: The Origin of Japanese Bidet screened internationally, and he later spent four years documenting Rui Hachimura’s NBA journey for the Washington Wizards.

He is currently completing BREAK AND BURN, an 8-year feature documentary about a former Japanese breakdance champion who reinvented himself as a Michelin-starred chef in New York.

Alongside documentary work, he is developing narrative projects with a focus on surreal, emotionally driven storytelling.

CURRENT DOCUMENTARY

Synopsis:

BREAK AND BURN follows Atsushi “ATS” Kono, who rose from Japan’s underground hip hop scene to become a Michelin-starred yakitori chef in New York. Blending 2000s Japanese b-boy culture with the fiery artistry of the yakitori grill, the film traces a journey of reinvention — but at its core, it is also a moving portrait of a father and son.
